Features

The tilting rear axle and front deck with independent frame enable good cutting quality even in uneven areas. The wide wheels on both axles and a careful design to keep the weight of the machine low, minimize trampling of the lawn even in conditions of a full basket and soft or wet ground. The pedal-operated locking differential improves the effectiveness of traction to overcome slopes and move safely in difficult situations. Fuel consumption at work is particularly low (approx. 2.5 litres/hour) and because of the 22-litre tank with level indicator clearly visible, it is possible to mow for the entire working day without having to stop for refueling.

The 113 cm front cutting deck makes it easy to work around edges and reach difficult spots, under plants, hedges and low branches. The cutting system is a 3-blade system, 2 counter rotating blades and a central blade guarantee great cutting quality and low noise and do not require special belts for transmission.

The height can vary from 2.5 to 9 cm with progressive adjustment, which is managed electrically via a button on the dashboard. The cutting deck is floating and follows every undulation of the ground, the deck wheels are full anti-puncture and the anti-scalp wheels, adjustable to three positions, are mounted on bearings. The cutting deck can be easily converted to a mulching version by applying the optional kit.

The grass catcher has a capacity of 700 L and is equipped with a hydraulic lift and tilt, the maximum discharge height is 190 cm with a 15 cm overhang. The motorized deflector allows full filling, uniform and optimal filling of the grass catcher regardless of grass conditions because of the three-position adjustable sensor. When the grass catcher is full, the sensor interrupts cutting to prevent clogging. The grass catcher door closes and opens automatically.

The hydraulic services for raising and tilting the grass catcher are operated from the driver’s seat by means of practical levers that make grass discharge and return to the working position extremely smooth and fast. A third lever is used to hydraulically lift the cutting deck to move around and easily negotiate kerbs and obstacles.

The engine is liquid-cooled with a self-cleaning radiator; the electric fan for cooling can reverse the direction of rotation to eliminate any grass clippings on the radiator, with an automatic system regulated by a special sensor. The radiator can be opened outwards to facilitate inspection and access to the mechanical parts close to it.

The FD 500 is equipped with an 18 HP 3-cylinder Kubota 722 diesel engine that complies with EC (NRMM) STAGE V (Europe) and EPA Final Tier 4 (USA) regulations, mounted on silent blocks in a particularly sturdy monocoque frame, specially designed to protect the mower’s components. The machine has a spacious and comfortable driver’s seat, the position is ergonomic and the seat is adjustable. The steering wheel is equipped with power steering and guarantees very low effort even under full load.

The painting of Grillo machines is a double-layer electrostatic powder coating. First there are the washing and preparation baths, then a first protective layer is applied which, with baking in the oven, is the best base for the finishing application. The second coat of paint and a further baking in the oven at 190°c give the characteristic hardness and gloss. All FD 500s are meticulously assembled and thoroughly tested by specialized personnel. The final inspection of the FD 500 includes a test for each machine to check all functionality. A further and final guarantee for a high quality product.
